The Age of Speed
July 30, 2008
A New Perspective for Thriving in a More-Faster-Now World (Bard Press, $22)
In today's face-paced world, many people feel they would be happier if they simply slowed down. While it's easy to embrace this desire, a slower lifestyle may ultimately leave you unfulfilled, given the short period of time life gives us to accomplish big dreams. The Age of Speed, by Vince Poscente, an Olympic skier turned business consultant, addresses this basic problem, concluding that we can find great satisfaction in staying busy if we learn how to manage a host of choices.

In describing this key to getting the most out of life, Poscente says that being able to handle many options enables us to accomplish more – but without working harder or longer hours. As he notes, whether it be making dinner reservations, designing a complicated quarterly report or indulging in a passing fancy, we can do all of life's tasks more quickly and with less exertion, as long as we have the ability to make up our minds.
