Individuals working towards a Certified Advertising Specialist (CAS) or Master Advertising Specialist (MAS) will now be able to customize part of the coursework required to qualify for either certification, which will also retain a set core curriculum and other requirements, such as working in the industry for a minimum number of years and passing an exam.
"The MAS/CAS Certification Board has redesigned the MAS/CAS program to deliver more customized value to its participants," says Rick Merrill, PPAI's director of professional development. "As the board worked with our members, it became increasingly apparent that while the content of the required courses consistently received very high scores, the courses didn’t meet the needs of all of our members equally."
After completing the redesigned course's curriculum, "program participants will have the freedom to customize the program and participate in education sessions that deliver the greatest benefit to their own professional development," he adds.
The CAS designation's core curriculum will include an overview of the promotional products industry, promotional programs, best practices/ supplier-distributor relations, advertising and marketing overview, Sm@rt Artwork guidelines and business ethics. After finishing that, participants will structure their own course schedules based on relevance to their careers. Areas of emphasis include: sales and marketing, business management, technology, professional development or a combination of the four areas.
The MAS designation requires CAS certification, completeion of additional core MAS courses, a set number of years of service in the industry, and exam and developing a pre-approved workshop or publishing a paper or article.
